About us: The Hillcrest Technical Rescue Team (HTRT) is a specially trained
group of firefighters drawn from the Hillcrest Communities of Beachwood, Gates Mills,
Highland Heights, Lyndhurst, Mayfield Heights, Mayfield Village, Pepper Pike, Richmond
Heights and Willoughby Hills. The HTRT operates under the direction of the Hillcrest Fire
Chief's Association.
Location: Main response area: Hillcrest Community. Mutual aid agreements
established with the 14 communities of the Chagrin/Southeast Hazardous Materials Team.
The HTRT will respond outside of the above area when requested by a local fire department.
Founded: 1995
Rescue Services: The HTRT has been trained to rescue victims trapped on ice, in swift
water, dive rescue & recovery. Additionally, the team utilizes extensive rope and rigging
experience to rescue victims in ravines or other places inaccessible to fire service ladders.
Other treacherous situations include high towers (such as radio and cell towers), confined
spaces, trenches & excavation collapses. The team has also been trained in hazardous
materials (HAZMAT) and structural collapse.
Team Focus: The HTRT is designed to augment the response of the host
community fire department/EMS agency.
Unique Characteristics: The entire team is cross-trained in all areas of specialization, with
the exception of rescue divers. Dive rescues traditionally require two members on shore for
each diver in the water. The team is registered with Federal, National, State and County
emergency response agencies.
